Anthropogenic emissions of GHG are believed to be one of the largest contributors to climate change. To encourage people to cut their emissions of GHG, we have designed a GHGs calculator tailored to Taiwan. We promoted its usage at various events including at the premier of the documentary “The 11th Hour.”
According to the 4th IPCC report, we need to limit global warming to a 2ºC average rise in order to avoid catastrophic impacts from climate change. We conveyed this message by displaying “<2ºC” on Taipei 101, one of the tallest buildings in the world. We also dedicated a website to the event, hosted six carbon reduction seminars in Taipei 101, and hosted forums on low-carbon economy and carbon neutralization (sponsored by Tetrapak).
Going paperless is an important environmental initiative and can be achieved through the use of electronic receipts. We collaborated with Taiwan Mobile to study how much carbon emission can be saved by replacing paper receipts with electronic ones. Findings from the study will be released and used to urge companies in Taiwan to switch to electronic receipts.
The relationship between Women and Climate change is also more and more discussed in these years. In the era of climate change, Women not only could be more vulnerable, but also have the potential to be the change of agent. On March 8th 2010, the International Women’s Day, we invited some representatives from company, NGOs, councilor and professors to dialogue together, in order to bring it into the spotlight.
